The Kraken

Blogging is something I haven't done since probably age 15...at the latest.  But, earlier this very morning, while telling the darling John Forgrave about a dream I had had the night before, I decided to start sharing my crazy subconscious thoughts with anyone who cares to read them.  I dream almost every night, but the one that I'm going to share now was honestly one of the craziest dreams I've ever had...
I can't really give a date to it, but it was within the last month.  So here goes:

I was in a high school bathroom that looked very similar to the bathroom that the troll attempts to crush Hermione in in the first Harry Potter movie.  There was no sound other than thunder and rain.  I was accompanied by Libbi Dust and we were terrified, trying to find some place to hide, but I wasn't entirely sure what it was we were afraid of.  Each taking our own stalls, we stood on the seats of the toilets, crouching down so that we could be hidden.  Under the door of the stall I stood in, a long, purple, snaky tentacle slithered its way under, and I screamed.

It flashes to Libbi and me walking arm in arm down an empty hallway on our way to our daily morning high school assembly.  It is still storming outside... frightfully so.  In the gym, there was a lot of movement, and even a full basketball game going on, but not a single sound.  Nobody spoke.  Except for me.  I continue to chatter loudly after Libbi and I had entered the gym, not noticing her immediate silence and fear.  I walked among my peers giving greetings and such, not paying the smallest attention to their wide eyes and shaking heads.  Something was wrong apparently, and I was not catching on.

I sat down with some high school friends (I believe Ryan St. Onge was among them) trying to talk to all of them, but none of them spoke.  Eventually one kind soul had the heart to send me a text message that explained everything.  The text read:
"She hears everything.  She'll be looking for you now.  She takes the first voice she hears."
Confused as hell, I responded with:
          "WHAT?"
Response:
"The Kraken.  She'll take you now."
At this point, the volume in the room was turned up.  Everyone began to speak as if nothing had happened.  Relieved, I suppose, that it was not them that would be "taken".  I laughed.  This was ridiculous.  No one was after me; no one was going to "take me now".

All at once, every phone in the gymnasium rang, all receiving the same text message that read something along the lines of:
"To the beautiful girl whose voice entrances me:  come to me.  Turn yourself in to me, or face the responsibility of the destruction of those you love."
She was talking about me.  She was coming for me.

I tried to hide, but the longer I did, the louder the storm outside got. Waves crashed on the building walls, and shook the school.  I sat in the top of the bleachers, watching the basketball game until I finally yelled, "I'M HERE!".  Moments later, a small Asian women (who looked remarkably like Economics Professor Zhen Li) entered the room wearing gloves.  (The gloves were an important detail to me when I woke up, because I know that they hid her tentacles.)  At this very moment, I noticed that my cell phone was about to die.

My friends rushed to this women- took her coat, complimented her, pampered her like royalty.  I realized that this woman was the Kraken and she was here for me.  Her eyes snapped up to meet mine, and I shivered.
"You there." She smiled at me.  It made me sick.  "Come here."
As if in a trance, I walked down the steps to her.  She placed a gloved hand on my shoulder.
"Come with me." she said, her voice low and husky.

So I went with her.  We walked out into a perfectly calm-weathered sky.  Overcast, but perfectly calm.  No storm.  And she spoke to me.  Her voice was calm, composed, and she was very sweet.  This is the Kraken that was going to kill me?  It couldn't be!  Little did I know... this was her plan.  Her form shifted.  No longer Zhen Li, but a woman I used to babysit for, she led me into her house where she and I baked cookies, and made dinner for her "husband".  We were laughing, and laughing.  Why, we were having a wonderful time.  I was bewitched.

My phone was dead.  And even though I was under some sort of spell, I am always aware of my phone.
"Do you have a phone charger?" I asked her, my cheek muscles sore from laughing.
"No, silly girl.  Why would you use your phone?"
"It's late.  I should be getting home soon."
"Oh Callie, you sweet child.  You're never going home."  She sauntered over to me, wrapping her arms around my waist, and whispering in my ear, "You're mine now."

This was when I realized that the Kraken didn't want to kill me, she WANTED me.  I snapped out of the trance, but I could not get her tentacles off of me.  She held me fast, and her true form was revealed.  She became the terrible sea monster that was so popular in myths.  I screamed, and never stopped screaming as she proceeded to wrap her tentacles around my every limb.

Then I woke up.
